Effective contractors to connect RES generators to the NEM

One of the key areas of growth in Australia is in renewable energy, related to which is the construction of renewable energy source (RES) generators and their connection to the National Electricity Market (NEM).

It is suggested that the existing levels of uncertainty makes the current contracting norms problematic for the delivery of successful RES projects, and that a more considered approach to the selection of procurement method is required.

This presentation will provide a brief overview of the NEM., which will be used to examine the areas of the market in which the most change is occurring and then consider the current contracting methods to assess their enduring suitability.

The presentation will also examine alternate contracting approaches to determine whether they pose a better solution for the developing RES market, with a determination that more flexible contracting models hold the key for the effective delivery of projects. Liquidated Damages and other mechanisms); and operational concerns (MLF changes, long term constraints on RES operation).
