Careers in tunnelling - A young engineers perspective
With a strong pipeline of tunnelling projects over the past 15 years and continuing into the future many engineers have chosen a career in tunnelling. The tunnelling industry is in many ways unique and challenging. Please join us for this event where we will hear from young engineers what it is like working in the tunnelling industry. They will share their experiences, triumphs, adversities and lessons learned.

About the speakers
Ry Neradovsky
Project Manager, Ferrovial Construction
Ry is a mining engineer and has developed his career to become an established Project Manager with a broad engineering background including tunnel and civil construction, mechanical and electrical fit out and mine engineering. His career started in the mining industry as an underground operator and mining engineer working on multiple projects. From this, his skill level advanced to working as a Senior Project Engineer for excavation becoming Tunnel Delivery Manager on Westconnex M5, Senior Project Engineer for tunnel and civil construction and transitioning to Deputy Project Manager of the Mechanical and Electrical team for the Westconnex M4 – M5 link. He is currently the Project Manager of Five Dock Station on SMW - Central Tunnelling Package, encompassing site set up through to station cavern lining.
Katerina Monemvasioti Kappos
Sydney Metro West - Central Tunnelling Package
Katerina is a chartered civil engineer with post-graduate specialisation in tunnelling from the National Technical University of Athens. She is a skilled Associate Tunnelling Engineer, having worked for Jacobs in London and Sydney since 2014. She gained experience through the design and construction phases of projects such as the Nuclear Plant Hinckley Point C, Westconnex 3A and Sydney Metro West. Katerina is a committee member of the Australasian Tunnelling Society NSW, a junior member of the Diversity in Tunnelling group and of the Institute of Civil Engineers NSW Chapter. She has been a STEM ambassador and UTS students’ mentor.
Luke Foyster
National Product Manager, Mapei – Underground Technology
Luke's professional experience is approaching 10 years within the underground industry specialising in large-scale civil and mining projects. As the national product manager of underground technologies for MAPEI he is responsible for overseeing and advancing MAPEI's product portfolios for the tunnelling and mining sectors. Luke's passion lies in TBM tunnelling where he actively works towards reducing the industry's carbon footprint through his work as a member of the ITA working group on low carbon tunnel linings. Luke's expertise, commitment to innovation, and dedication to environmental sustainability make him a valuable asset in shaping the future of the underground industry.
Denis Tepavac
Associate, Delve Underground
Denis Tepavac is an Associate engineer at Delve Underground with specialist tunnelling experience on a wide range of transportation, water and wastewater projects, both in Australia and internationally. He has diverse design experience in metro rail, road tunnel and large-scale underground structures. Denis currently is the project-wide Design Discipline Lead for SEM scope and permanent tunnel linings on the North East Link Program.
