The Arc Fault Detection Device (AFDD)
Arc Fault Detection Devices or AFDD were developed in America to reduce death due to 110V arcing faults failing to trip protection and resulting in high house fires deaths. The American 110V system is a result of Edison claiming 240V is unsafe due to electrocution exposure. In 230/400V systems the arcing current is also intermittent and causes burn hazards at the high power end instead of at the low power end. The differences in the problem and the solutions will be explained.
