In the UK how we manage the design and construction of temporary works has significantly changed over the last 30 years or so. This presentation discusses these changes and highlights some common issues and shows current UK best practice. Ray Filip Ray has been involved in the field of temporary works for nearly 35years, having worked for major contractors in the UK and Southern Africa and a specialist UK subcontractor. For the last 14 years he has run his own temporary works consultancy, offering specialist technical advice, temporary works design, procedural control, site auditing and training. Since 2016, Ray has been on the British Standards committee responsible for revising BS5975. On occasion he also advises the UK Health and Safety Authority on temporary works issues.
